Home Up

Here is one of our magnetometry surveys which located an unexpected suburb outside a Roman town in the UK. Pottery from the field surface indicates a Roman date although medieval occupation of part is also a possibility.

The magnetometry was good for locating the ditches and, presumably, hearths but was less useful in finding the layout of buildings within the enclosures which were some 40 metres square. These may have been of timber construction with wattle and daub infill which would have left little trace.
